              ERKENNTNIS ?

Vom Baume der Erkenntnis pflücken

kann leider nur in Grenzen glücken,

und es ist mühsam, wenn man zweifelt,

denn mancher Irrweg scheint verteufelt,

indem er, anstatt uns zum Licht

zu führen, zeigt: So geht es nicht!

Und geht's mal doch ein Stückchen weiter

hinauf auf der Erkenntnisleiter,

dann fragt man sich zuweil'n verdrossen:

Ja, hat die Leiter noch mehr Sprossen?

Ist, was da an der Grenze wirkt,

nur Trugbild von was sie verbirgt?

Kein Wunder, wenn man - so frustriert -

doch lieber Glaubensjünger wird:

da kommt man gleich in den Genuss

des Seelenfriedens, denn man muss

die Grenzen, diese unbequemen,

dann gar nicht erst zur Kenntnis nehmen.

              KNOWLEDGE ?

The tree of knowledge seems to hide

its precious fruit behind an unseen curtain.

We quest to lift the veil and stride

down roads of progress, feeling fairly certain:

Enlightenment will be the merit for our rally!

(To sometimes just find out we're stuck in a blind alley.)

As we climb upward, rung by rung,

along the ladder of emergent knowing,

a nagging question often stung:

How many steps yet, where may they be going?

Is there a limit? Is the curtain just providing

a vain illusion, whilst the truth it still is hiding?

No wonder when frustrations find

us clinging to the tenets of belief,

which grant us instant peace of mind

and spare us headaches, puzzling and grief:

No longer will we bother borders to explore

for any vexing limit we will just ignore.
